SUBJECT: Madrid EWO 21-020-03B-03 Modification 1
Lift Station 7 Wet Well Site Stabilization
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
On May 13, 2024, the engineering firm Madrid/CPWG completed a geotechnical exploration at Lift Station 7 site on Grant Street as outlined in EWO 21-020-03B-02. The exploration consisted of one 85-foot-deep Standard Penetration Test (SPT) boring performed at the center of the proposed wet well structure. Madrid/CPWG's professional opinion of the SPT concluded that sinkhole conditions had been encountered at the site and required further exploration to establish the extent of the unsuitable/unstable soils and mitigation for stabilization.
EWO 21-020-03B-03 was executed to complete the recommendations outlined in Madrid/CPWG's report which included additional geotechnical engineering services to thoroughly evaluate the subsurface conditions within the construction area, take field measurements and dimensions to create a plan view drawing, and prepare a grout injection stabilization plan, technical specification and engineer’s estimate of stabilization quantities and costs needed to stabilize this feature as necessary.
The services outlined in the second EWO and a Sinkhole Stabilization Plan have been completed and bids to complete the work have been received and evaluated by Madrid/CPWG. The cost to complete the stabilization is $71,933.68, which includes construction, construction management, construction monitoring, and a final signed and sealed completion report.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute EWO 21-020-03B-03 Modification 1 with Madrid/CPWG for soil stabilization of the Lift Station 7 Wet Well site.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in Utilities Project UM020 - Lift Station Upgrade/Replacement.
