AGENDA REPORT
DATE: September 23, 2024
TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: EWO 21-020-01K-01 Modication for Lift Station 7
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
On January 10, 2022, the original scope for design, permitting, bidding assistance, and construction administration for a new pump station on a 50’x50’ parcel south of West Grant Street, adjacent to Dr. Hal & Lynn Brewer Park was approved for $170,386.00. This new pump station was intended to replace the City’s existing Lift Station No. 7 and designed to manage the current wastewater flows from Lift Station No. 7 and the anticipated flows from the new Parksquare development. The project also involved extending the City’s sanitary sewer system to the new pump station and decommissioning the old Lift Station No. 7.
However, during construction, it was discovered that the soils at the proposed location for the new sanitary sewer main had high levels of organics and were not geotechnically suitable. Geotechnical data confirmed that installing the sewer main there posed risks of settling and could affect its service life. Consequently, the new sanitary sewer main will not be installed in that location. Instead, the new lift station will proceed as planned but will only handle flows from the Parkside Townhome Development. The existing Lift Station No. 7 site will be rehabilitated and retrofitted with aboveground pumps for the existing wet well.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute Engineering Work Order 21-020-01K-01 Modification with Ardurra Group Inc. for an additional cost of $51,606.00 to redesign the new lift station and upgrade and retrofit Lift Station No. 7 for a total work order cost of $221,992.00.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the Water/Sewer Fund, CIP # UM020 - Lift Station Replacement.
