SUBJECT:                     Legislative public hearing on an ordinance to annex four (4) parcels totaling 58 ± acres - ANX-2023-04, ANX-2023-05, and ANX-2024-01.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Planning and Zoning Division has received voluntary annexation petitions for 4 parcels totaling 58 ± acres.

ANX-2023-04 contains one (1) parcel totaling 15.77± acres and is located on the West side of N. Alexander Street, North of W. Terrace Drive. The application states the reason for annexation is to develop in Plant City and connect to City utilities.

ANX-2023-05 contains two (2) parcels totaling 37.38± acres and are located on the West side of James L. Redman Parkway, South of Trapnell Road. The application states that the property owners would like to have the subject parcel(s) annexed into the City for proposed future development.

ANX-2024-01 contains one (1) parcel totaling 5.05± acres and is located at 5408 Paul Buchman Highway. The application states that the property owner would like to have the subject parcel annexed into the City for future development.

It has been concluded that the parcels are contiguous to the City of Plant City and reasonably compact, thereby not conflicting with any of the requirements of Chapter 171, Florida Statutes, for annexing properties.

These annexations will incur an additional two (2) tons of solid waste obligation from the City to County.

On August 28, 2024, the Planning Board voted (4-0) to forward the voluntary annexation requests [ANX-2023-04, 05 and ANX-2024-01] to the City Commission with a recommendation of approval. Staff also recommends approval.

RECOMMENDATION

Adopt an ordinance approving the annexations

FISCAL IMPACT:

The annexations, if approved, will provide tax revenue from the future development of the parcels.
