TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: Water Reclamation Facility Master Lift Station Pump Replacement
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City of Plant City (City) has owned and operated its Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) for treatment and disposal of domestic and industrial wastewater since 1951. The WRF has a master lift station to collect sewage and pump it to the treatment process. The master lift station, a critical system for controlling influent and maintaining continuous operation, has six submersible pumps that have been in service since 2008.
One of the pumps experienced failure and the motor was found to be grounded. Utilities Department hired a contractor to inspect the pump for the feasibility of repair. The contractor determined the pump was non-rebuildable and recommended replacement.
Utilities Department has scoped a Vaughan 100 HP chopper pump to replace the existing pump at the master lift station. Vaughan chopper pump is included and adapted in the City's approved product list for submersible applications to prevent cloggings and ragging. In addition, the chopper pump will improve maintenance by helping to remove the fats, oils, and grease layer in the master lift station wet well.
FJ Nugent Co. is the sole distributor of Vaughan Chopper Pump. The Notice of Intent to sole source purchase (25-013UM-HK-NOI) was released on October 31, 2024 and concluded with no objections. The City would like to proceed with the purchase of Vaughan Chopper pump from FJ Nugent Co for the amount of $92,672.00.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission adopt a resolution authorizing the purchase of Vaughan 100hp chopper pump for the Water Reclamation Facility Master Lift Station from FJ Nugent Co. for $92,672.00.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the Water/Sewer fund, CIP # UM017 - WRF, Unscheduled Equipment Replacement.
