AGENDA REPORT
DATE: January 13, 2025
TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: Odor, Corrosion control, and phosphorus removal services
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Utilities Operations Division uses Ferric Sulfate for odor control, corrosion control, and phosphorous removal at the City’s lift stations and water reclamation treatment plant. This chemical has helped the award-winning wastewater treatment facility reduce its phosphorous nutrient levels, thus helping the environment and meeting compliance requirements.
On May 1, 2023, the City entered into an agreement with Evoqua Water Technologies for supply and delivery of Ferric Sulfate through piggyback of Lee County for $2.36 per gallon.
On November 14, 2024, Lee County awarded a new contract, RFP240129DJN, to Evoqua Water Technologies for services using Ferric Sulfate for odor control, corrosion control, and phosphorous removal in wastewater. The price per gallon is $2.38 and the City can piggyback this agreement on an as-needed basis through November 13, 2027. This piggyback agreement can be renewed for up to two additional years. The cost includes chemical and turnkey services.
Piggybacking a larger entity such as Lee County allows the City to leverage economies of scale in the price per gallon. The estimated annual usage is approximately $300,000.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute a contract with Evoqua Water Technologies, LLC, to supply and deliver 9% Ferric Sulfate through piggyback of Lee County Contract No. RFP240129DJN for $2.38 per gallon.
