AGENDA REPORT
DATE: January 13, 2025
TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: Gap purchases of Ferric Sulfate
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Utilities Operations Division uses Ferric Sulfate for odor control, corrosion control, and phosphorous removal at the City’s lift stations and water reclamation treatment plant. This chemical has helped the award-winning wastewater treatment facility reduce its phosphorous nutrient levels, thus helping the environment, and meeting compliance requirements.
The City acquires this chemical from Evoqua Water Technologies, through piggyback of Lee County. Piggybacking a larger entity allows the City to take advantage of economies of scale. Lee County experienced a time delay in replacing their expiring agreement, which has caused a contract gap. Staff must maintain continuity of operations to provide service to customers, remain in compliance with permits, and to maintain regulatory requirements.
Staff estimates gap purchases of Ferric Sulfate to be approximately $80,000, at $2.38 per gallon.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize temporary out-of-contract purchases of Ferric Sulfate, from Evoqua Water Technologies, not-to-exceed $80,000.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the Water/Sewer Fund, Org # 40257802, Obj # 452210 - Utilities Operations, Chemicals.
