                                                               AGENDA REPORT

DATE:                                          January 27, 2025

TO:                                          City Commission

FROM:                                          Bill McDaniel, City Manager

SUBJECT:                     Approval of Agreement for Processing Recyclable Material

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The City's Solid Waste Department currently takes their single-stream recyclable material to Republic Services' material recycling facility (MRF) in Lakeland, Florida.  The City currently does not have a written agreement with Republic Services and therefore seeks to piggy-back on the City of Lakeland's agreement associated with their RFP No. 2308 for Weighing, Accpeting, Processing and Marketing of Single Stream Recyclables.

The Solid Waste Department evaluated two other local agreements for processing recyclable material:  the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County.  The one used by the City of Lakeland has the lowest cost impact.  The contract is for one year with one optional 2-year renewal.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement with Republic Services to process single-stream recyclable material.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The estimated annual impact of this agreement is $40,000. Funds are available in the Solid Waste Fund, Org # 405584034, Obj # 434030 - Landfill Fees - Recyclables.
