TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: Globe Valve Replacement for Water Treatment Plant 4
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City of Plant City (the City) currently owns and operates four (4) Water Treatment Plants (WTPs). Each Water Treatment Plant has its own well to pump water to the storage tank. As part of this operation, the control valves / globe valves play a critical role in modulating and controlling flow and pressure to prevent the occurrence of water hammer or surge pressure.
Water Treatment Plant 4 is equipped with a 16" globe valve, which has been in operation for nearly 36 years and is approaching the end of its useful life.
The Utilities Department is scheduled to replace the 16" globe valve and its components due to age and normal wear and tear. It is essential to maintain a functional valve to prevent any failures within the water treatment plant system. The existing valve is manufactured by GA Industries, and the Utilities Department intends to retain the same manufacturer to minimize modifications to the existing setup and footprint. CS3 Waterworks is the sole distributor of GA Industries’ products.
Notice of Intent to sole source 25-039UM-TB-NOI was published on March 11, 2025, and concluded with no objections. The cost of this valve is $54,200.00, which includes freight.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission adopt a resolution authorizing the purchase of one 16" GA valve, from CS3 Waterworks, for $54,200.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the Water/Sewer Fund, CIP # UO012 - Water Treatment Plant.
