TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: Engineering Work Order with Rummel, Klepper & Kahl, LLP for Construction Engineering and Inspection Services for Varrea Off-Site Utility Extension
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Varrea North Development project proposes the extension of water, reclaimed water, and force mains as part of a major utility infrastructure expansion. The project includes approximately 2.5 miles of water main, 1.4 miles of force main, and 1.1 miles of reclaimed water main.
The proposed pipeline route begins at the intersection of Sam Allen Road and Wilder Road. The water main will run along Wilder Road, continue onto Midway Road, and terminate at the entrance to Varrea North. The reclaimed water and force mains will be routed through Midway Road, extending to Charlie Taylor Road, where they will connect to existing utilities near the entrance to Varrea South.
Given the increased workload and the critical importance of thorough construction inspection for this utility extension, the Utilities Department recommends hiring a consultant to provide Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) services. RK&K has been selected to perform these services.
The scope of work includes construction administration, submittal reviews, field inspections, coordination with stakeholders, and all supporting services to ensure the developer's contractor complies with applicable regulations and standards. Utilizing the City's continuing contracts, the engineering work order will be a time-and-materials agreement not to exceed a total contract amount of $119,968.99.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute Engineering Work Order 21-020-06K-01 with Rummel, Klepper & Kahl, LLP for $119,968.99 to provide construction engineering and inspection services for the Varrea Off-Site utility extension.
