DATE:                                          October 27, 2025

TO:                                          City Commission

FROM:                                          Bill McDaniel, City Manager

SUBJECT:                     Resolution to authorize the City Manager to accept the Energy Efficiency Light Emitting Diodes (LED) Grant Voucher

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

On December 31, 2024, the City of Plant City received official notification of a reimbursable voucher grant award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The award, totaling $76,400, was issued under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Voucher Program.

The purpose of this grant is to support the conversion of existing field lighting to energy-efficient Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) at the Martin Luther King (MLK) Recreation Complex. This project aligns with ongoing efforts to reduce energy consumption, improve public infrastructure, and promote environmental sustainability within the community.

The grant is reimbursable and must be fully utilized by the end of the project period, which expires December 2026.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to accept the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Voucher from the U.S. Department of Energy.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The reimbursable DOE grant does not require local matching funds. The $76,400 will be used to offset the total project cost of $280,000 at the Martin Luther King Recreation Complex.

A budget adjustment related to the grant award is included in the agenda packet.
