AGENDA REPORT
DATE: August 25, 2025
TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: Walking Excavator Replacement
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Streets and Stormwater Department walking excavator, Unit 6288 - 2007 Kaiser, has exceeded its useful life and become unreliable. A mechanical failure in October of 2023 resulted in a fire damaging the unit. In 2025, $50,605.82 in insurance repairs was invested into the unit. Since then, the excavator continues to have significant performance issues. The excavator is primarily used in stormwater canals and ponds where mobility is limited. Therefore, unreliability is a major concern to staff.
A new unit can be acquired from Menzi Muck USA for $671,375 through cooperative FSA23-EQU21 contract. This would include a 50-inch rotary mower, grading bucket, rear-view camera, 3-day training course, and 2-year warranty. The Menzi Muck USA, Inc. branch in Lakeland has experienced staff to train personnel, provide warranty, and stock parts. Procurement is available through the Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) Cooperative Purchasing Program Contract FSA23-EQU21 Spec #65.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to purchase a Menzi Muck M545X from Menzi Muck USA, Inc for $671,375.00, through cooperative FSA23-EQU21 contract as per Quote No. 08152025COP.
FISCAL IMPACT:
A budget adjustment to appropriate funds to purchase this unit is included in the agenda packet for approval.
