SUBJECT: Engineering Work Order with CHA Consulting for
Lift Station 2 Force Main Replacement
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The existing 16-inch cast iron force main conveying wastewater from Lift Station 002 to the downstream basin was installed in the early 1960s and has reached the end of its service life. Due to the high likelihood and significant consequences of failure, the Utilities Department is prioritizing its replacement to protect the environment and avoid potential regulatory violations associated with sanitary sewer overflows.
The Utilities Department worked with CHA Consulting to provide engineering design services for the force main replacement. In conjunction with the force main work, several undersized 1-inch, 1.5-inch, and 2-inch galvanized steel water mains located within the project limit require upsizing to meet current system standards. The project limit is defined as North Pennsylvania St. from LS-002 south to East Tomlin St., East Tomlin St. from North Pennsylvania St. to North Palmer St. (west of the CSX Railroad), and East Calhoun St. from North Pennsylvania St. east to North Knight St.
The proposed scope includes the design of approximately 1,865 feet of new 16-inch force main from LS-002 to a discharge manhole west of the CSX Railroad, including a new discharge structure designed to minimize gaseous erosion at the connection point. The scope also includes the design of approximately 1,385 feet of new 6-inch water main, installation of new fire hydrants, relocation of existing water services, and preparation of a water service transition plan to maintain service during construction. The total cost for these professional engineering services is $252,220.62.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute an Engineering Work Order with CHA Consulting in the amount of $252,220.62, to de...
