Reclamation Facility Aeration Basin Mixers and Clarifier Scum
Pumps Replacement
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The construction contract with Vogel Bros. Building Co. for the replacement of mixers and scum pumps serving the aeration basins and clarifiers at the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) was approved by the City Commission on May 12, 2025.
Following approval of Change Order No. 1 on February 23 to address additional cleaning needs in Aeration Basins 3 and 2, staff observed significant additional grit accumulation when Basins 2 and 1 were drained. Because grit and sand settle unevenly and cannot be accurately quantified until each basin is emptied, additional cleaning is required to provide proper access for equipment installation and to maintain operational reliability.
To avoid delays and ensure continued progress on the project, an additional 825 cubic yards of grit removal is needed for the remaining basins. Utilities staff negotiated a reduction in the contractor’s unit price from $445 to $200 per cubic yard, resulting in a total cost of $168,300 for this change order.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute Construction Contract Change Order No. 2 with Vogel Bros. Building Co. for additional grit and sand removal in the amount of $168,300.00.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the Water/Sewer Fund.
