DATE:                                          June 22, 2026

TO:                                          City Commission

FROM:                                          Bill McDaniel, City Manager

SUBJECT:                     Gilchrist Park Playground Shade Sails

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Gilchrist Park Playground 2 was installed in October 2025 and has quickly become a popular recreational amenity for families and children. To enhance user comfort and safety, shade sails are needed to provide coverage over the playground area and reduce exposure to direct sunlight.

The installation of shade sails will help mitigate extreme surface and equipment temperatures, creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for playground users, particularly during the warmer months. In addition, shade structures will protect from harmful UV rays and help reduce weather-related wear and tear on the playground equipment, extending the useful life of the investment and reducing long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Utilizing the City's continuing contract 25-040PK-JG-PB for Playground and Park Site Furnishings, staff has developed Work Order 25-040PK-JG-PB-05, with Rep Services, Inc., for Gilchrist Playground 2 shade sails, for $170,134.02.

RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute Work Order 25-040PK-JG-PB-05, with Rep Services, Inc., for $170,134.02.

FISCAL IMPACT:
