AGENDA REPORT
DATE: June 22, 2026
TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: MLK Recreation Complex Baseball Field Fencing
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The MLK Recreation Complex is home to three baseball fields that serve youth and adult athletic programs throughout the community. In recent months, several significant facility improvements have been completed to enhance the quality, safety, and longevity of the complex. These improvements include LED conversion of the sports field lighting, irrigation system repairs, new sod installation, and reworking and grading of the ballfield clay surfaces.
The existing perimeter and outfield fencing on ballfields 1-3 has reached the end of its useful life. The current fencing is experiencing significant deterioration, including rust, curling, and recurring maintenance issues requiring constant repairs.
The proposed replacement fencing will consist of black vinyl-coated chain-link fencing, providing increased durability, reduced maintenance requirements, and an improved aesthetic appearance. To reduce project costs, City staff will perform demolition and removal of the existing fencing.
This project can be completed utilizing the City's continuing contract with Witt Fence Company. Work Order 25-017PK-JG-PB-05 has been developed for $280,630.15 to complete the replacement of fencing on Ballfields 1-3.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute Work Order 25-017PK-JG-PB-05 with Witt Fence Co., to replace ballfield fencing at the MLK Recreation Complex, for $280,630.15.
FISCAL IMPACT:
A Budget adjustment and CIP budget adjustment for the MLK Fencing is included on the CRA agenda for the meeting tonight.
This project is utilizing funding from two CRA projects that are no longer viable projects. After approval of both CRA agenda items, the funds will be available in CIP #PK036- Park Improvements.
