AGENDA REPORT
DATE: July 13, 2026
TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: Approve work order to purchase a new Fire Station Alarming System Phase 1
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Plant City Fire Rescue is requesting approval to modernize the existing Station Alerting System currently in place, since 2018, due to the system no longer being supported by the manufacturer.
The new Alerting System would be installed in three phases. Phase one (1) includes:
• Replacement of outdated station equipment with seamless integration with dispatch software
• Provides reliability and serviceability at the stations while maintaining existing notification methods
• Creates a foundation to support the remaining phases of the alerting system overhaul
This enhancement will allow Plant City Fire Rescue to have more efficient communication, can grow with department expansion, and has the ability to enable additional features. The goal is to provide a fast, reliable, and user-friendly method of improving fire responder turnout times for the City of Plant City.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute a work order 26-028FR-PB-01 with Communications International for Phase One of the installation of A new Fire Station Alerting System, via piggyback of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Contract, at a total cost of $79,327.80.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds for this project are allocated in the current fiscal year budget under General Fund.
