AGENDA REPORT
DATE: August 24, 2026
TO: City Commission
FROM: Bill McDaniel, City Manager
SUBJECT: City Network Fiber Relocation at 705 N Alexander Street
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Utilities Department would like to relocate an existing fiber line located within the Water Reclamation Facility. This fiber provides City network connectivity to Fire Station #2. The line is currently hanging loose and the fiber box (handhole) is not in the protected area, making the fiber vulnerable, especially following the demolition of the Environmental Compliance building.
Utilities proposes relocating the fiber to the fence line and installing it underground. This will provide a secure, durable, and protected route, significantly reducing risk of service interruption. The scope of work includes boring and installation of conduit, pulling and installing new fiber along the new route, completing terminations and connection to Fire Station #2, and performing testing, verification, and final inspection of the new fiber installation.
The City has an existing piggyback contract with PCS, and the work order amount for this relocation is $65,605.00.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute a work order with PCS in the amount of $65,605.00 for the relocation of City network fiber at 705 N Alexander Street.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds are available in the Water/Sewer Fund: CIP # UM017 - IMPLEMENT
